Legacy Admissions at Georgia Tech

In the past few years, the admissions process at Georgia Tech has raised a number of concerns by alumni whose sons, daughters and other relatives are applying to the Institute. In short, many legacy applicants are not admitted, despite seemingly good qualifications. The article below from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution provides insight into the admissions process with discussion from a reader:

We have received a number of stories from Xi alumni ranging from the 1960s to the 1990s whose relatives applying to Georgia Tech were not admitted in the past two years despite good qualifications. There has been much discussion on social media, as well. It is certainly disheartening to hear such stories. This has a major impact, not only for those alumni but for our fraternity and others as well. For recruitment, we depend in part on legacies. For alumni support, it helps if our alumni support Georgia Tech. This issue will continue to be important, so be sure to stay involved.
